The Heir Test

Twelve questions about the one person who would have to act if you couldn't. We'll call them your heir. It takes about two minutes.

Answer "yes" only if it's true today, not if you plan to do it. The test never asks what you hold, how much, or where anything is.

Your answers stay in your browser. Nothing is sent, saved, or tracked.

Level 1: do they know it exists?

1.Does your heir know you hold bitcoin?

2.Do they know whether it's held by a company (an exchange), in self-custody, or both?

The two need completely different steps.

Level 2: do they know where things are?

3.Are there written instructions they could find without asking you?

4.Do the instructions say where each piece is, without containing any secret?

No seed phrase, passphrase, or PIN written in them.

5.If your setup uses a passphrase, would they know where to find it and how to tell they typed it correctly?

6.Does someone know who can open each place the instructions point to, after you're gone?

7.Does whoever will handle your estate know the instructions exist?

Usually your executor. They don't need the secrets.

Level 3: can they do it alone?

8.Has your heir followed the instructions alone, start to finish, with you silent?

Sitting behind them is fine. Helping isn't.

9.Did that run end with them sending a small test payment themselves and seeing it arrive?

10.Was every step they got stuck on rewritten in their words?

11.Have you followed the instructions to the letter yourself, as if you'd forgotten everything?

In case you're the one who forgets.

12.Has the whole thing been rerun in the last 12 months, and after any change to the setup?
